I wanted the look to feel romantic but not heavy in Charleston weather, and I wanted the gown, shoes, alterations, veil, jewelry and hair to work together rather than being six separate purchases. What mattered was outdoor comfort, Charleston heat and humidity, movement, shoe stability, alteration timing, avoiding competing accessories, and making the ceremony look work at the reception too.

The reasoning
Why these worked
Start with the gown
The lighter construction of the Coastal Garden dress made more sense for an outdoor ceremony and gave us a better starting point for the rest of the look.
Choose shoes before finalizing the hem
The ceremony surface changed the shoe decision. A lower block heel gave us a stable height that we could then use for the final hem.
Make the gown work through the reception
We waited until the exact shoes were chosen before finalizing the hem. The bustle mattered because the gown needed to work at the reception, not only in ceremony photographs.
Keep the veil and jewelry balanced
Once we saw the fingertip veil with the neckline, adding a necklace made the upper half feel too busy. The pearl earrings gave enough detail without competing with the gown.
